Samsung Galaxy S8

According to recent reports, Samsung is going to introduce a next generation flagship Smartphone in its Unpacked 2017 event at the Mobile World Congress (2017). It has been reported that the new Samsung Galaxy S8 will be made available in multiple variants and not just a single variant. As per the latest reports, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to feature a larger screen this time.

The next flagship from the house of Samsung which will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2017 will be made available in two variants: one being a 5.7-inch and second being a massive 6.2-inch. The Samsung Galaxy S8 in the 6.2-inch screen size is expected to feature a bezel-less design, with over 90 % screen to body ratio. This is to make sure that the dimensions of the Galaxy S8 don’t vary much from the S7 edge model.

Also, it has been speculated that the 6.2-inch variant has been included to entice the Note 7 customers, who couldn’t get the device after it was recalled worldwide because of the battery burning issues. Earlier this year, Samsung brought the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge variant at 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch sizes respectively while the Note 7 was introduced in the 5.7-inch screen size.

Moreover, according to the report it was stated that the Galaxy S8 will differ from the planar design language and both the models will feature a curved display, just like the Galaxy edge series.

Apart from the size and look of the device, the most widespread rumors claims the phone to come with a Snapdragon 830 SoC, a dual-camera setup on the rear, a 2K display, and a screen to body ratio of a massive 90 percent. Another highlight which is expected to be the introduced with the S8 is the Samsung’s own AI assistant, like Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. Furthermore, this assistant feature is also rumored to get a place for button on the S8.

Well everything will be cleared when the company launches it officially in the upcoming MWC event 2017. The company must be hoping to regain its reputation with S8 after the global fiasco of its Galaxy Note 7.

Wireless Mouse

Inspired by Apple’s Magic Mouse 2 design, Xiaomi has now introduced a lightweight Mi wireless Mouse. For now it has been introduced in China only but soon it will be made available in other market as well. The unique thing about this device is that it features an added functionality named as ‘dual-mode’. The “dual-mode” allows a user to use the mouse on two devices at the same time. This Portable Mouse might be inspired by Apple but it is considerably cheaper than the one offered by Apple. It is priced at CNY 99 which is around Rs. 1,000 INR. The sale of this device will be starting from November 11 in China.

The portable mouse connects to other devices via Bluetooth (version 4.0) and wireless adapter having radio frequency of 2.4GHz. The device weighs just 77.5 grams (with batteries). It can be easily connected with the Mi tablets, TV, laptops, desktops, mobile phones, and other devices. The Mi Mouse offers wireless coverage of up to 10 mtrs, and requires AAA batteries to power it.

As said earlier, the USP of this mouse is that it supports two devices at one time. You can connect one with the Bluetooth and the other one via wireless adapter. The dual-mode option not only enables the Mi Mouse to connect to two devices, but it also makes the switching between the two an effortless task. Moreover, a dedicated button at the bottom of the mouse is present for switching function. A user just needs to press the button to shift the mouse from one screen to another. In addition, the device features a high-speed laser pointing which offers accuracy of up to 95% and 1200dpi.

The Wireless mouse comes with an anodised aluminium covering, measuring about 10.2×57.2×23.6mm. Xiaomi claims that the device is totally compatible with Windows 7 and above devices. LEDs, Function keys, positioning groove are all are fixed at the bottom of the mouse.

Furthermore, Xiaomi has also introduced an anti-pollution mask in China. This anti-pollution mask is powered by a rechargeable air filter, and is priced at CNY 89 which is around Rs. 900 INR. However, it is yet to be known as when these devices will be launched in Indian market.

Adobe Working on an “AUDIOSHOP” Just Like the “PHOTOSHOP”

adobe

Slowly and steadily, technology is advancing day by day. It is become unbelievably capricious. Take an example of Adobe only, the company Adobe is known to be working on software which is on the same platform as Photoshop but it’s going to be especially for audio. No, it’s not called Audioshop! The code name given to this new software is Project VoCo. The USP of this software is that if offers you the ability to add words which are actually not present in an audio file.

Although it’s not clear whether this product will be made available commercially or not, it was confirmed by the Adobe about the existence of the project to The Verge. It was clarified that it was shown off as part of a sneak peak program at the MAX conference. The project is in its developmental stage and it’s as part of collaboration between members of Princeton University and Adobe Research.

The Project VoCo is being considered as a premium Audio Editing Application which not only supports standard speech editing and noise cancellation features but also will have the function to generate new words using recorded voice of a person. It means that the software will be able to understand the makeup of a person’s voice and will try to imitate it. However it require about twenty minutes of speech recording.

As per an official statement by Adobe, it was stated that most of the time when recording dialog, narration or voiceovers, people usually make some changes or add a couple of words either due to a mistake or may be because they might want to make changes in some part of the narration or dialog. This newly developing technology named Project VoCo will let one simply type in the words or lines that he/she would like to insert or change into the narration or voiceover. The algorithm of the software does the rest of the things and makes it sound like the part of original voiceover, narration or dialog.

If Adobe is able to develop this under-progress project successfully, it is surely going to be one of the most significant and much loved software in the future.

Should you Go with the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime?

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

Because of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fire fiasco, last few months have not been “GOOD” for Samsung Mobiles. Even after the company recalled the flagship device and exchanged them with the “safe” Galaxy Note 7 devices, customers still experienced the fire issues. This eventually made the company discontinue Note 7 completely. Considering that fiasco a thing of past, the company launched a mid-range Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime in September and today we are going to help you a bit in deciding whether to go for it or not.

1.) Build and Design

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime looks like the other old conventional Samsung design having rounded corners. The design philosophy makes the device to mistaken easily for other Samsung Smartphones. Though it looks nice but the “Nothing-New” design is now making Samsung mid-budget Smartphone range dull and uninteresting in comparison to today’s stiff competition.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has a plastic build on the front while on the back it has a non-removable metal back with plastic top and bottom strips. Even though the phone has plastic build in front, top and bottom, it still has strong build quality.

The top portion on the front comprises front camera, earpiece speaker and proximity sensor. The bottom portion has the “Back” button on the right, “Home” button in the middle which also has the fingerprint sensor to unlock the device and a “Recent” button on the left. These buttons have icons inscribed and are not back-lit.

On the top right side, the device features a power button and volume up and down buttons on the left side. Moreover, J7 Prime sports a primary SIM slot in the middle left side of the device along with the bottom part having a separate slot for second SIM and microSD card.

2.) Features

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is driven by a Samsung Exynos 7870 chipset having a 1.6GHz octa-core processor along with Mali-T830MP2 GPU. The device boasts 3GB RAM and has 16GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256G via dedicated microSD slot. Coming to the screen size, J7 Primes has a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Galaxy J7 Prime boasts a 13 Mega Pixel camera sensor with an f/1.9 aperture, autofocus and LED flash on the rear and an 8 Mega Pixel front facing camera with an f/1.9 aperture. It is capable of capturing 1080p Full HD videos. In addition, the J7 Prime comprises numerous connectivity options like

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot,
  • Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.1,
  • GPS with GLONASS or BDS,
  • MicroUSB v2.0 port with USB On-The-Go support,
  • 5mm headphone jack
  • FM Radio support along with dual-nano SIM card slots
  • Fingerprint scanner
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensors.

3.) Display

The 5.5-inch Full HD display of Samsung J7 Prime has a impressive resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density 401ppi. The IPS LCD display seems to be nice. The LCD IPS display offers nice viewing angles which makes reading, web browsing, gaming or watching videos on display effortlessly. The contrast, colors, and vibrancy of the screen is quite decent. There is an “Outdoor” option in this device which enhances the visibility of the screen when using outside.

4.) Software

The Galaxy J7 Prime is powered by Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Samsung has not made much change in the software as compared to its other Smartphone. The device comes preloaded with Samsung Notes My Galaxy, Galaxy Apps, S Planner, S Health, and S Secure. Moreover, the device includes applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, OneNote and Skype and Opera Max. Easy Mode, Fm Radio and Flipboards are other add-ons that users get. Although, the software is not exceptionally brilliant but it’s also not sluggish or lagging. The device includes Smart Manager which is useful in optimizing RAM, cleaning trash, checking battery life and much more.

5.) Performance

The performance of Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is quite well. There is no sign of lag. The Exynos 7870 along with 3GB RAM flew through all the tasks, gaming, music, web browsing and image editing easily. The call quality of the J7 Prime is decent with clear sound and nice clarity.

However, one thing which is worth noticing is the performance of Fingerprint sensor. The response of Fingerprint sensor seems slow and inaccurate sometimes. The sensor is not able to recognize the fingerprints at times.

6.) Camera

The camera of Samsung’s mid range Smartphone has always been a drawback. Even after the 13MP sensor, the primary camera on the device is not as good as it should. The captured photos are good provided there is ample lighting and patience to avoid blurriness. Talking about the front camera it also disappoints as it renders blurry and sub-par photos. And, Low light images are best if avoided with this phone.

The camera app does offer several modes such as Pro, Panorama, Auto, Continuous shot, Night Mode, HDR Rich Tone, Beauty face, Sports and Sound and Shot, but these options doesn’t live up to their name.

7.) Battery

The Galaxy J7 Prime boasts a 3300mAh battery which is one the advantages of the device. It is evident from the test as J7 Prime ran for 9 hours and 59 minutes in PCMark ‘Work battery life 1.0’ which is an rigorous test. The Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode are also included to boost the battery life of the device. Although the device has great battery life but the absence of fast charging and USB Type-C port can be little disappointing considering the tough competition from other Smartphones.

Verdict

Samsung J7 Prime could have been a good Smartphone but with a price tag of Rs 18,790 it is difficult to say that people would prefer going for this phone when all these and more features are available in other brand Smartphones for the half price of Samsung J7 Prime.
